After preaching this last Sunday an exercise occurred to me that might be helpful in killing pride and cultivating humility. Start by taking a sheet of paper and marking off two columns. On the one side write down all the reasons you have for pride. On the other side write down all of the reasons you have for humility.
The reality is that none of us have any reasons for pride. Consider 1 Corinthians 4:7
For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? -1 Corinthians 4:7
Every good thing we have, every positive aspect of who we are and what we done is a result of God's kindness. Once again, our pride is flattened and we are left standing in joyful awe of God's grace.
